| Annapolis, MD. USA - Today's scenes on Chesapeake Bay will not
soon be forgotten by the 66 teams of nearly 300 women competing here at the
2003 Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship (Rolex IWKC). With
18-25 knot winds packing 30-knot punches, the four-person crews worked
aggressively to keep their 22-foot boats under control, while several teams
experienced their worst nightmares -- harrowing knockdowns that tossed crew
members overboard while pinning masts to the water and exposing white
underbellies of hulls. |

International Women's Keelboat Championship, Betsy Alison (Newport, R.I.)
still leads with Sally Barkow (Nashotah, Wis.) in second. The two now have a
five-point spread between their overall standings whereas yesterday they
were tied in scoring with Alison taking the lead due to tie-breaker rules. |

| Annapolis, MD. USA - On the eve of US SAILING's Rolex
International Women's Keelboat Championship (Rolex IWKC), 67 international
teams are making final preparations for tomorrow's start of the five-day,
10-race regatta aboard International J/22 class keelboats. Regatta
organizers confirmed the list of sailors who will compete from Bermuda,
Canada, Cayman Islands, Denmark, New Zealand, South Africa and 17 U.S.
states: California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts,
Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode
Island, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Maryland, which has fielded 17 teams. |

| Annapolis, MD - 2003 will mark the 10th running of
US SAILING’s biennial Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship
(IWKC) when the event returns to Annapolis, Md., Sept. 27-Oct. 3. The
Annapolis Yacht Club (AYC) also makes a return showing to host the event for
a second time, tapping Annapolis native and veteran sailor Molly Hughes as
Event Chair and partnering with the Eastport Yacht Club and the Severn
Sailing Association for additional organizational talent. Based on Hughes’
enthusiasm and the sustained momentum from the 2001 event, where a record 61
teams competed, the “mother of all women’s keelboat events” can’t come soon
enough. |
